Established in 1868Girard held a year long Sesquicentennial celebration in 2018. The community was founded in February 1868 when Dr. Charles Strong selected the geographic center of Crawford County as the place to shoot a deer and proclaim that spot to be designated as the new town of Girard, named after his hometown in Pennsylvania.
Girard was also home to the socialist newspaper "The Appeal to Reason" and also the "Little Blue Books" of classic literature. |
